Write the Table of Content from the Story of Life
Friday, February 22, 2008 - Ryan Williams

It is your job to write the table of content to your life leaving the pages to be filled by God. We struggle so much to make what we want happen. We try to control and manipulate situations and people to see that things happen our way by using our finite mind and not trusting in the Universes Infinite knowledge.

Our job isn’t to control events but to increase our faith and burning desire that we will attain what we most seek. It could be the joy of having a family and providing for them and yourself. Once we follow our hearts the Universe will open up to us.

We have gone to school to be a lawyer but our hearts want us to be a teacher. But, because our father or mother wants us to be a lawyer we choose that career. Or we could have chosen it because we were good at arguing and it would make us a lot of money so it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Just having the talent for something is not enough; love must be attached to it. If you follow your heart money is like its shadow, where your heart goes money necessarily follows. Yes a lawyer does make more than a teacher but that is just looking at things short-term. For all you know you might end up opening up your own school. Teaching whatever it is that you love teaching. There is your will and there is God’s will; yours is finite and his is infinite.

If you follow your heart to doing whatever it is that your heart tells you to do is God’s will. Even if at first it doesn’t seem to be a logical to do this because there is no certainty that it will bring in the kind of money you need to live the way you see yourself living. There is no way that God’s will, can come into your life if you don’t first surrender your will. Whatever it is that you will, God’s will, will cover the needs of your will and more.

Surrendering to God means to surrender to that love that you feel inside; you must trust that it has all the answers and lessons for you. Know that it has a bigger plan for you. Know that if you focus on the larger picture all the smaller details will be taken care of. This includes money, fame and happiness. These things are just side effects to following that God love inside of you. You must co-create with God as you would a partner in a company.

On the day of your birth you inherited a company called “Your Life”. This company has two employees; you and God (Universe). In this partnership, you produce a story called “Your life” and your job is to come up with the ideas and table of content. God’s job is to write the story. But, there is unrest in this company because you have forgotten your role. You are trying to edit the story, screenplay, and dialogues because you can’t see how it has anything to do with what you intentions.

You’re trying to do your partners job when your partner has more experience than you in such matters and as you are doing that you’re forgetting your responsibility in create more ideas for the chapters ahead. The writer has no more ideas to write about so he writes about what you’re most complaining about.

I used to work for a design firm about 5 years ago. The owner was not a designer himself but an entrepreneur nonetheless. His office was right behind my desk so if he were to look over his desk he could see my screen and what I was doing. What he requested was a background image of swirling colors with lightning effects. I would start off by using my pen tool and a black background just making random lines and marks to make it look like a bunch of scribbles then I would blur the patterns to create the backgrounds and change the colors as I see fit.

That afternoon, every time he would look over to check my progress all he would see are all this scribbles and I was slouching because it was one of the most tedious things to do. After seeing me “appear” to just be doodling and wasting his time and money. He came over with a temper and grabbed my mouse asked me what the hell I was doing. Then showed me sites with these backgrounds saying that this is what he was looking for these damn scribbles. I tried to tell him over and over that I will make it look like that and to trust me I know what I am doing. He insisted that none of these scribble could ever look like “these beautiful works of art”. At this point 5 years ago I was ready to put his head through my monitor and these were those heavy 26 inch CRTs not the flat screens like we have today!

So, I told him to have a seat and watch as I finish the file. He was amazed to see these “scribbles” being blurred into each other, then lighting added to give it that electric look and colors added to make a beautiful abstract piece of art to then being trashed and me quitting. Don’t assume that you know how something works because it isn’t going according to your expectations, there is a greater understanding involved. Stick to what you know and what you can do; this is your partnership. You must dream BIG and watch it unfold.

When the first 8 cylinder engine was developed by the Henry Ford Company he understood this relationship of co-creation. He didn’t create the engine himself he has a team of engineers to do it. He had a vision and stuck to it, even though the engineers said it wasn’t possible. So, then he fired those engineers and hired new ones. He never once told them how to build it all he said is “I want an eight cylinder engine!” and he left them to it. He focused on creating of the ideas and let the professionals handle the details. He got what he wanted in the end!
